Language is the key to success

For anyone studying in Germany, the German language is an essential skill. Learning a language entails becoming acquainted with a country’s culture, tradition, way of life, art and literature.

I’ve been studying German for the past 18 months and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It was difficult at first, but after a month of learning, my love for learning the language reached new heights.

In my opinion, it is a must-have tool for anyone who is going to Germany to study or work. You cannot absorb yourself into society if you don’t know the language of the nation where you’ll be living for over a year. It will make it harder to engage with people, you will experience challenges in your everyday life, and you will be limiting your opportunities for a brighter future!

We all have our unique methods for learning a new language. Watching German films, listening to music, and reading newspapers are among my favourite interests, and really helped me to grasp German. The most difficult aspect of the journey for me was memorising German articles. Now, owing to technology, we have clever teaching methods that aid learning.

Learning German may be more difficult for Chinese people than for English native speakers. This is because German is a member of the Germanic languages family of Indo-European languages, which shares many characteristics with other Germanic languages such as English and Dutch. Also, Chinese languages use characters rather than letters.

When it comes to learning a language, all it takes is enough determination and effort to achieve your objective. There is no set amount of time that can ensure your success in learning German, but discipline is the most crucial factor. You’re not going to wake up one day and be able to communicate fluently in German — that’s for sure!
