Programme Overview

Real estate management is about maximising the value of real estate on behalf of the ownership as well as developing the manager’s real estate portfolio. Based on a series of procedures, financial strategies and analyses, managers focus on improving returns and reducing both expenses and their exposure to investment risk. By analysing the markets, they can identify opportunities and suggest advantageous real estate transactions.

In a contemporary business environment, it is important to assess the actual or potential value of an asset, whether tangible or intangible. Through asset management, organisations determine the value of assets while taking into account the balancing of costs, risks, and performance. The main principles of management and the concept of an asset management system, which is used to create an asset management policy framework, are thoroughly discussed in this unit

Investment analysis in real estate is crucial for investors, developers, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions about whether to invest in a particular property or real estate project. Based on a series of methods, financial strategies, and analyses, managers focus on maximising returns and reducing both expenses and exposure to investment risk. By analysing the real estate market, both domestically and internationally, managers can identify opportunities and suggest advantageous real estate transactions.

Real estate and asset portfolio management includes a comprehensive approach to optimising the performance of a diversified portfolio of real estate and other assets. Students will gain a solid understanding of the in-depth analysis and decision-making processes involved in portfolio management considering factors such as asset types, geographic locations, financing structures, and market trends to align the portfolio with specific investment objectives.

The aim of this unit is to explore both the present and the future of sustainable real estate management operations as well as to analyse how green operations can provide competitive advantages to businesses.

Real estate finance and capital markets are vital components of the real estate industry. Real estate finance and capital markets focus on the financial aspects of real estate investments, including how real estate transactions are funded and how they interact with financial markets. Real estate finance is concerned with the financial analysis and management of real estate assets and investments, and capital markets relate to the broader financial system and how it impacts real estate investments.

Navigating real estate law and regulations can be complex. This course unit has been designed to introduce the essential legal principles that form the foundation of real estate law. In this unit, we will conduct a thorough analysis of how these legal principles and regulations impact the real estate industry and its operation.

In this unit, students will master the knowledge and skills related to property development and management, which includes the acquisition, design, financing, construction, and sale or lease of real estate properties and encompasses the ongoing operation, maintenance, leasing, financial oversight, and regulatory compliance of these properties. The topic of sustainability and environmentally responsible property development will also be explored.

The Research Methods in Real Estate and Asset Management unit provides students with an introduction to research methods commonly used in business, supplying them with the skills to design, conduct, and evaluate research projects relevant to real estate and asset management. Students will learn about qualitative and quantitative research methods, data collection and analysis techniques, and ethical considerations in business research.

Writing the dissertation is a process of discovery, one that allows a student to examine and present a thorough and relevant literature review, demonstrate high levels of analytical and critical awareness, synthesise theories, and relate theory to practice. In the dissertation, the student must conduct original research and illuminate the findings of this research.
