Based on a recent legal assessment of the applicable Spanish immigration framework, there are strong legal grounds to support that BSBI graduates may be eligible for Spain’s Job Search Residence Permit (initially granted for up to two years), provided they meet the general legal requirements.

Spain’s updated Immigration Regulations (Royal Decree 1155/2024) provide several pathways for international students to remain and work in Spain after their studies:
- Work while studying: International students holding a valid Spanish student residence permit are permitted to work during their studies, helping them gain professional experience and integrate into the labour market.
- Transition to a work residence permit: After completing their programme, students who receive a qualifying job offer may apply to change their student status to a residence permit with work authorisation. This is one of the most common pathways and does not require first obtaining a Job Search Residence Permit.
- Alternative to the Job Search Residence Permit: While the Job Search Residence Permit is one available option, graduates who secure an eligible employment contract may transition directly to an employment-based residence permit in accordance with Spanish immigration requirements.
The Dual Programme Award is an optional study pathway that enables eligible students enrolled on selected BSBI Professional Master’s programmes to graduate with two separate qualifications:
- a Professional Master’s qualification awarded by BSBI and certified by Cualificam; and
- a UK academic degree awarded by the University of Chichester.
This pathway combines professionally focused education with an internationally recognised academic qualification, providing students with the benefits of both professional and academic learning.

Studying directly in the UK as an international student often costs over £20,000 per year in tuition fees alone. Through this partnership, students can obtain a British university degree while studying in Spain for an additional €1,200.
A UK qualification is recognised internationally for its academic quality and rigorous standards. Employers and universities around the world value UK degrees, making them beneficial for:

- Future postgraduate study
A Professional Master's on its own does not provide access to a PhD programme, as progression to doctoral studies requires an academic qualification. If your goal is to pursue a PhD, you can choose the Dual Programme Award, through which you will receive an academic degree awarded by the University of Chichester (UK). This qualification allows you to apply for PhD programmes, subject to the admission requirements of the university you wish to attend.
The Professional Master’s at BSBI Spain is not an official university master’s degree within the Spanish education system, and therefore does not lead to an official Spanish qualification. However, these programmes are certified by CUALIFICAM, ensuring their academic quality and alignment with the standards of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

Eligibility depends on factors such as your qualifications, the job offer, and the immigration regulations in force at the time. We recommend seeking advice from the relevant immigration authorities or a qualified immigration professional to understand the options available to you.
BSBI is unable to arrange or expedite visa appointments, as these are managed solely by the relevant embassy or consulate. However, our Admissions and Student Support teams can provide guidance on the visa application process and the documents you need to prepare. We recommend booking your appointment as early as possible and checking regularly for any newly available appointment slots.
If your visa application is rejected, please inform your BSBI Admissions Advisor as soon as possible. Our team will review your situation, explain the available options, and advise you on the next steps where possible. As visa decisions are made solely by the relevant embassy or consulate, BSBI cannot influence the outcome of an application
If your visa is delayed and you are unable to arrive in time for your programme, you may be able to defer your studies to a later intake, subject to BSBI's admissions policies and programme availability. Please contact your Admissions Advisor as soon as possible so they can review your circumstances and discuss the options available to you.
The availability of online study while waiting for your visa depends on your programme and the applicable academic policies. If your visa has not been issued before the start of your course, please contact your Admissions Advisor to discuss the options available to you. They will advise you on whether online learning is possible and the next steps based on your individual circumstances.
