Heidi Bilbao Cotal is a language specialist with a BA in Linguistics and English Literature from the Universidad de Chile and the University of Western Sydney, Australia (2001). She also holds a Master’s in English as a Foreign Language and a Master’s in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.
With over twenty years’ experience as a university lecturer, Heidi has taught both young students and adults across a variety of educational settings. She is deeply committed to supporting international students in higher education and has extensive experience teaching business professionals in international companies, focusing on English for business contexts.
Throughout her career, Heidi has demonstrated a strong dedication to language education and intercultural communication. Her teaching emphasises not only linguistic competence but also academic and professional communication skills essential for success in global environments.
In addition to her teaching, Heidi is a Certified Oral Examiner for Cambridge University Examinations, reflecting her expertise in English language assessment and standards.
Her areas of professional interest include applied linguistics, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), phonetics and phonology, grammar, academic writing, and language testing. She also maintains a strong interest in English literature and bilingual education, drawing on her multicultural academic background and experience in both English- and Spanish-speaking contexts.
Heidi’s approach to teaching integrates theory and practice, promoting learner autonomy and confidence through communicative and task-based methodologies. Her goal is to equip students with the skills and strategies they need to succeed in academic and professional settings where English serves as a global means of communication.
