Our team

Overview

Dr Karim Shehata is a Lecturer in Finance and Accounting with over 13 years of combined experience in academia and the financial industry. He currently lectures at the Berlin School of Business and Innovation (BSBI) in Berlin, Germany, where he delivers a range of advanced modules across MSc and MBA programmes. He holds a PhD in Business Administration (Finance), a Master of Science in Investment Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Dr Shehata has more than eight years of university teaching experience, educating undergraduate and postgraduate students in finance, accounting, and investment. His academic career is strengthened by his professional experience in both the banking and consultancy sectors, where he applied financial theory to real-world practice.

In the banking industry, Dr Shehata spent over four years overseeing operational processes, ensuring compliance, and managing customer service functions. He subsequently transitioned into consultancy, where he provided strategic financial modelling, supported mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and conducted risk analysis using Excel and Python.

As a certified Training of Trainers (ToT) professional, he has conducted professional development workshops on financial literacy, risk management, project management, and digital competence for academic and administrative staff.

Dr Shehata is also an active peer reviewer for several Scopus-indexed journals, including International Journal of Financial Studies (IJFS), Journal of Risk and Financial Management (JRFM), Risks, FinTech, and Cogent Business and Management. He is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Asian Economic and Financial Review, contributing to the maintenance of academic excellence and research quality.

Bridging the gap between theory and practice, Dr Shehata integrates industry insights into his teaching, inspiring students to apply analytical and technological tools in solving complex financial challenges. His ongoing research and publications continue to advance the understanding of risk management, financial innovation, and the application of machine learning in finance.
