Overview
Dr. Akua Bobson is a passionate scholar and educator whose work bridges the worlds of literature, identity, and culture. Holding a PhD in English Literature from the University of Ghana and a Master’s Degree from the Ruprecht-Karls Universität (Heidelberg), her research explores how “Africa” manifests in diaspora literary texts through an interdisciplinary lens. Her academic interests encompass comparative and postcolonial literature, with a particular focus on Afro-Caribbean narratives and the intersections of literature and history across the African diaspora.
Currently a Lecturer in English at the Berlin School of Business and Innovation, Akua is dedicated to making learning a dynamic and transformative experience. She teaches courses in Foundation English, Introduction to Marketing and Creative Business, encouraging students to think critically, communicate effectively, and approach ideas with creativity and empathy. Known for her approachable teaching style and genuine mentorship, she provides guidance that helps students uncover their academic and personal strengths.
Before joining BSBI, Akua taught at the University of Ghana, Tema International School, and other schools, where she developed a reputation for inspiring curiosity and cultural awareness in her students. Her experience spans internationally recognized curricula such as the IB, IGCSE, and MYP programs. She has led creative writing initiatives, co-edited school publications, and organized literary events that promote expression, inclusivity, and critical thinking among young people.
Beyond the classroom, Akua is an active participant in Africa’s literary and intellectual spaces. She has served as a panelist, interviewer, and judge at major festivals and book events, engaging writers and audiences in thought-provoking conversations about identity, storytelling, and representation. She also run several women’s and children’s book clubs in Ghana and managed a bookshop dedicated to promoting African and diaspora literature. Her editorial work and public scholarship reflect a commitment to amplifying diverse African and Afro-Caribbean voices and making literature a space for dialogue and transformation.
Fluent in English and proficient in German, Akua brings a truly global perspective to her teaching and research. Her career is guided by a simple but powerful belief: that storytelling and education—rooted in empathy, critical inquiry, and imagination—can bridge cultures, empower individuals, and reimagine communities.
