Overview
Dr. İlter Aktas is a Lecturer at BSBI, Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics. He holds a Ph.D. in Energy Systems Engineering from Gazi University and an M.Sc. in Energy and Sustainability with Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Southampton, both fully funded by a national scholarship. Prior to joining BSBI, he worked for a decade at Siirt University, where he taught and conducted research in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Dr. Aktas’s research mainly focuses on renewable energy systems, engineering management, smart grids, energy trading mechanisms, energy economy, and hybrid energy systems. He has published several articles in Q1 top-tier journals such as Renewable Energy and Case Studies in Thermal Engineering, addressing topics including photovoltaic systems, peer-to-peer energy trading, and techno-economic analyses for sustainable energy transitions.
He has received multiple distinctions, including the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Advanced Technology and Sciences (Rome, Italy) and an Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility Grant at the University of Coimbra (Portugal). In 2025, he and his team achieved second place at the Berlin Energy Hackathon for developing an AI-based local energy management platform.
He has supervised numerous master’s dissertations, encouraging his students to integrate academic research with practical and technological applications. He also served as Academic Director for international exchange programmes including Erasmus+. His teaching philosophy integrates innovation, sustainability, and critical thinking across interdisciplinary contexts.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Aktas has served as a consultant for private sector projects, advising on the design, optimisation, and implementation of energy-efficient technologies. His consultancy experience bridges the gap between theoretical research and industrial practice, particularly in the areas of renewable integration and sustainable production processes.
