What are the different types of Schengen visas?

This type of visa allows the holder to only enter the Schengen Area once, within a given period of time. Once the holder has exited the region, they will need to obtain another visa in order to re-enter.

This type of visa allows the holder to enter the Schengen Area twice. Holders have the ability to re-enter the area once exiting, for a second time.

This type of visa allows the holder to go in and out of the Schengen Area as many times as they want, providing they do not violate the 90/180 rule. This means you cannot be present in the area for more than 90 days within a 180-day time period.

In order to obtain this visa, you will need to have lawfully used three visas within the previous 2 years. Once you obtain the 1 year multiple-entry visa, you will be able to enter the Schengen Zone as many times as you want, providing you do not exceed 90 days.

In order to obtain this visa, you will need to have lawfully used a 1 year multiple-entry visa within the previous 2 years. Once you obtain this visa, you will be able to enter the Schengen Zone as many times as you want, providing you do not exceed 90 days within a 180 day period.

In order to obtain this visa, you will need to have lawfully secured a multiple entry visa for at least 2 years within the previous 3 years. Once you obtain the visa, you will be permitted to enter 26 countries within Europe as many times as you wish in the 5 year period, providing you do not violate the 90/180 rule.

What you need to get a Schengen visa 

You will need to gather the following documents in order to apply for a Schengen visa:

  • The latest version of the application form
  • A valid passport
  • Two identical photos
  • Evidence of your travel insurance policy
  • Details of your travel itinerary
  • Proof of your accommodation
  • Evidence of your financial stability

How much does a Schengen visa application cost?

Currently, the Schengen visa costs €80 per person.

How to apply for a Schengen visa

As you will be coming to Germany to study, you will need to apply for a study visa. In order to obtain this, you will need to work out where to submit your application to. You will need to submit your application to either the German embassy, one of their consulates or a visa centre. It is often beneficial to book a visa appointment; most countries will provide you with a chance to do so online.

Prior to attending your appointment, you will need to fill out a visa application form. 

We recommend that you apply for your visa at least three weeks before you travel.
